Strengths and Weaknesses

Throughout the creation of my product, I faced many issues with my process and discovered how to properly use watercolour and create a detailed piece of art.
Strengths -  -creating fine lines
                   - creating different shades while still holding bright colour
                   -proportion
                   -blending
Weaknesses -  -paint bleeding
                        -contrast of background and foreground
                        -features on the bird

Watercolour vs. Gouache

Gouache and watercolour are both water-based paints, however they create a look that is different from one another
The main difference between watercolour and gouache is that watercolour is translucent, and gouache is opaque. Water colour often requires more time and patience, since you need to layer and glaze the paint.

Progress Photo

This photo is the first progress photo I took. As you can see, I have started the trees and the mountains in the background. I also finished my first coat of paint on the birds. This photo was taken on my second day of painting.

About the Artist - Martin La Spina

This photo is a screenshot from the google images page, when "Martin La Spina" is searched. As you can see, all of his paintings are the same style. They are all surrealism, and they are all based around similar colour schemes. Martin La Spina enjoys painting nature, and telling stories with his artwork.

Watercolour Techniques

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-KYHJriivw

Once I decided to use watercolour paint as my medium for my final project, I thought it would be a good idea to learn different ways and techniques to apply the paint. One technique to apply water paint is called wash, and I used this technique for my sky in my painting. Another technique is called graded wash, and I used this in my water. One unique way to paint with water colour is called scrafido, however I did not use this technique

My Surrealism Photo

This painting by Martin La Spina is the photo I chose to recreate as my final piece. I was attracted to this photo because of its bright colour scheme, and similar to the previous photo, it combines animals and humans. I decided that this painting would work best if it were recreated with water colour, since water colour paint is very vibrant and easy to mix.

Surrealism #2

This post is also in the surrealism category, and it caught my attention because it combines animals and humans in to one photo. I believe that this photo tells a story, it is bringing attention to the issue of marine animals being washed up on the shore, whether it be because of rising sea levels or garbage floating in the water. The human legs on the fish are placed there to make human's put themselves in the animals shoes and realize how we are ruining ocean life.

Surrealism

This photo represents surrealism. This is the first photo that initially caught my attention and made me want to create my own surrealism photo. What I enjoy most about this picture is the earth-like colour scheme and the organic feel of the photo.
